Man Sentenced to Prison for Hitting and Injuring Child in School Zone

A man in his 20s was sentenced to prison for driving his motorcycle against a red light and hitting and seriously injuring a child crossing the crosswalk in a school zone.

According to the legal community on the 2nd, the 11th Criminal Division of the Daejeon District Court (Presiding Judge Choi Seok-jin) sentenced Mr. A (27), who was indicted on charges of causing injury in a child protection zone, to 1 year and 2 months in prison.

Mr. A was brought to trial on charges of hitting and injuring B (11), who was crossing the crosswalk at a walk signal, while driving a motorcycle in a school zone in front of an apartment in Seo-gu, Daejeon, at approximately 3:28 pm on December 19th of last year. .

At that time, Group B, who was seriously injured for 8 weeks due to the accident, was diagnosed with intracerebral hemorrhage and had to undergo brain surgery. Mr. A, who was handed over to trial, deposited 20 million won for Mr. B and appealed for leniency, but was unable to avoid imprisonment.

The court said, “He admits the crime and is reflecting on it, but he violated the traffic signal and caused an accident even though he was aware of the school zone. Considering the purpose of the legislation to protect children who are vulnerable to traffic safety, the guilt is heavy.”
