The vacation chamber of the Charleroi Criminal Court sentenced a man to 37 months in prison on Friday morning with a probationary suspension of five years for harassment and threats against the French singer Sabine Paturel. By obtaining the probationary reprieve, the defendant must in particular refrain from all contact with the French artist and not be less than one kilometer from the victim’s home.
On July 31, 2019, the French actress and singer, notably made famous thanks to her title “Les Bêtises”, in the 80s, filed a complaint with the police following the harassing and threatening behavior of a Carolo fan with whom she had become friends to the point of even having exchanged his telephone number.
Between 2019 and 2023, the groupie sent “aggressive and threatening” letters, messages or e-mails, according to the deputy public prosecutor, Stéphanie Dutrifoy.
In March 2022, the civil party thought, in vain, of a beginning of calm. In October 2022, the defendant started again and obtained alternative measures. “But on March 20, he sent a new letter to the victim,” said the prosecution on July 4.
Detained in Jamioulx prison, the 61-year-old man did not dispute having been “boring, sticky” with the French artist who used his Facebook page “to harm him”, he said.
Sentences of 18 months and two years in prison were required against the defendant, already known for similar acts. The defense pleaded for a probationary reprieve.
