“Man Sentenced to Prison for Causing Death of 1,140 Chickens in China”

In the city of Hengyang, southeast China, a court sentenced a local man named Gu to six months in prison, with probation, for causing the death of 1,140 chickens at a neighbor named Zhong. This was reported on April 8 with reference to the state media of the People’s Republic of China by the TV company CNN.

According to court records, Gu and Zhong fell out when, in April 2022, Zhong cut down trees that belonged to Gu without permission.

In response, Gu sneaked into Zhong’s poultry farm at night and frightened the chickens with a kind of flashlight, which caused the birds to panic and hide in a corner in fear.

In court, it turned out that 500 chickens died in the stampede for the first time. After that, Gu was detained by the police, and he was ordered to pay compensation of 3,000 yuan ($436) to Zhong.

However, Gu snuck into the chicken farm again, and another 640 chickens died there as a result of using a flashlight.

This time, Gu was sentenced to prison, but given his remorse, he was placed on probation for one year.
