Man Sentenced to 20 Years in Prison for Murdering Wife Who Planned to Leave Him

Louis Michel Manu, aged 67, was sentenced to twenty years in prison by the Assize Court of Hérault. On March 14, 2019, in the small town of Causses-et-Veyran, about twenty kilometers northwest of Béziers, he murdered his wife with a bullet in the head. She had told him some time before that she intended to divorce him.

All her life, this woman had been under the domination of her husband. His children brought civil action against their father. He had attempted suicide after killing his wife. But he had missed his gesture. Very diminished, now in a wheelchair, he lives with this bullet still lodged in his skull. He had left the hospital after having spent eighteen months there and had since lived in an Ehpad. He was imprisoned after his trial.

He falls asleep during his lawyer’s argument

The jurors went beyond the requisitions of the general counsel who had requested 18 years of imprisonment against the accused. During his lawyer’s argument, he fell asleep and had to be woken up when the president of the assize court asked him if he had anything to add in his defence.
