A 40-year-old man has been sentenced to eighteen years in prison for wanting to have his wife murdered. The man from Druten in Gelderland gave the murder order to a 29-year-old man from Emmen and promised him 50,000 euros.
The Emmenaar stabbed the woman in the neck and back in April last year at a holiday park in Kerkdriel. The woman survived the attack, but had to undergo several surgeries. She is no longer able to care for her children Broadcasting Gelderland.
It is according to the court not clear why the man wanted his wife dead. It is clear that he led a double life. For example, he wanted to buy a house with the mother of his children, but also with the victim, with whom he was married.
Didn’t care about others
The man was also convicted of inciting arson. For example, in addition to killing his wife, he also ordered the resident of Emmen to set fire to his business premises. That worked and the man submitted a claim of one million euros to the insurance company. However, that amount was not paid.
He has also been convicted of forgery. He lost his driver’s license for a while because he would have driven too fast. As a result, he missed out on an assignment for his company and demanded compensation of 130,000 euros. He substantiated this with an e-mail that allegedly contained the assignment, but it turned out that he had forged it.
“It is clear that the man had maneuvered himself into a difficult position. He wanted to make a lot of money quickly in all kinds of criminal ways. He did not care about others at all, not even about his own wife, whom he even wanted to have killed,” the court said. .
Sixteen years for Emmenaar
The Emmenaar has to go to prison for sixteen years for attempted murder and multiple arson attacks. To conceal the fire in the man’s business premises, he had to set several fires in the area. The authorities would then think that a pyromaniac was active in the area, or so it was thought. He started eight fires in total.
“He only did this to make quick money. The court only finds a long prison sentence appropriate,” the court said.
The woman demanded compensation from the man who carried out the assignment and tried to kill her. She did not want any money from her own husband, who ordered her to be killed. However, the court finds both men liable. They must jointly pay her 41,000 euros in compensation.
