Man sentenced to 18 months for attempted Rolex theft with violence

One of the two suspects in a brutal attempt to steal a Rolex has been sentenced to eighteen months in prison. This concerns the suspect who helped his accomplice get away on a scooter on July 1, 2022, after he held a gun to a victim’s head on a crowded terrace. The convicted person must also pay compensation of 2,500 euros to the victim.

The man was found guilty of theft with violence on the terrace on Beethovenstraat in Zuid. He deliberately participated in the robbery, during which his accomplice grabbed the victim by the neck, put a gun to his head and said: ‘Take off your watch or I will shoot you.’ The robbery failed because the victim resisted.

The man who has now been convicted brought his accomplice to the terrace and waited for him to flee together. That’s why he is now an accomplice in the robbery. He was also convicted of having a firearm. It hung in a bag on the door handle in the house where he lived with his girlfriend and his children.

The suspect who went onto the terrace and pointed the gun is still at large. The investigation into him is still ongoing.
