“Man receives longest sentence yet for Capitol storming attack”

A man in the US state of Pennsylvania has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for his role in the storming of the Capitol in Washington. It is the longest sentence to date for someone on trial for the attack on January 6, 2021.

During the storm, Peter Schwartz threw a chair at police officers and attacked them with pepper spray. The 49-year-old man, who has a long “criminal history”, was on parole at the time. According to CNN played a role in determining the sentence.

Schwartz was convicted of repeated violations of the law on the day in question. The judge does not believe he regrets his actions.

The Capitol in Washington was stormed in early 2021 by supporters of former President Donald Trump. He had called for resistance because he refused to acknowledge his electoral defeat. At the time of the storming, Congress was just making this result official.

Four people were killed during the storm. At least 138 officers were injured. In the aftermath of the incident, 4 officers took their own lives.

Many rioters have already been prosecuted after the storming. At least 500 suspects have now pleaded guilty.
