The suicide of an 11-year-old boy in the Gramoven area of Catia sparked a rigorous investigation by officials of the Scientific, Criminal and Criminal Investigation Corps (Cicpc), after it was verified in his autopsy that he was repeatedly sexually abused.
Upon beginning the interrogations with relatives, they discovered that the victim’s brother, another seven-year-old infant, also showed signs of sexual assault.
Both children were left without adult supervision in their home located on a sidewalk in the Tamanaquito neighborhood. Her mother used to go to work from early until late in the afternoon.
In the investigation, a man nicknamed “Shrek” was mentioned, who was a neighbor of the children and who was seen on several occasions with the two victims in the absence of their representatives.
When carrying out his arrest and beginning the interrogations, it was verified that this man, identified as Edgar Enrique Espinoza Urquiola, 34 years old, was responsible for the constant sexual attacks suffered by children in recent years.
Commissioner Douglas Rico, director of the Cicpc, assured that given the defenselessness of the 11-year-old boy in the face of abuse, he took his own life.
The detainee was placed at the order of the Public Ministry.
