– My client now pleads guilty to the murder, says lawyer Jørgen Riple to Aftenposten. He says his client has given a detailed explanation of what happened.

– It was not a planned action and he is terribly sorry, says Riple.

The defense attorney goes on to say that the man has said that the murder was not planned.

– It was a spontaneous reaction, says Riple to Aftenposten.

At 8:45 on Sunday, the emergency services responded to a fire in a vehicle on Blomøy in Øygarden municipality in Vestland. The fire brigade first arrived at the industrial site where the car was, and quickly extinguished the fire.

“No people near the car”, the Vest police district first reported on X/Twitter.

But on closer examination of the burned out vehicle, they found the remains of a person inside the car. VG writes that the dead person was found in the trunk of the car, which is a station wagon.

The man in his 30s was arrested near the place where the car burned.

Had a violence alarm

The police now believe that the deceased person they found in the car was a woman in her 30s. She has two common children with the accused, according to the police.

This was stated by police prosecutor Eli Valheim during a press conference on Sunday evening. The woman’s relatives have been notified and the family will now be followed up by a crisis team.

The deceased has not yet been formally identified and will undergo an autopsy on Monday.

The accused is a Norwegian citizen, but born abroad. He has previously been convicted of threats, but that applied to another woman.

The police confirm that the woman had a violence alarm against the person who is now charged with murder.

The man will be produced for remand on Monday.

Remote area

The police stated on Sunday afternoon that the work at the scene will continue for several more hours.

The owner of the area where the car was found speaks Bergens Tidende that it served as a storage area for earth and stone. The place where the burnt-out car was found is not visible from the road passing by.

The only others who should have used the area were road contractors who stored gravel closer to the motorway, he tells the newspaper.

Mayor of Øygarden, Tom Georg Indrevik, says that the municipal management has been in contact with the police about the matter.

– We are informed, and ready to assist the police to the extent that they need it, says Indrevik to Bergens Tidende.

He does not know any more details about the possible murder than what the police have released.

This is the fifth murder case investigated in Norway so far this year. A total of eight deaths are linked to these.
