Jeffrey recently had some bad news: a metastasis has developed in his spleen. Despite the fact that he has only heard bad news lately, he does not give up. He does a lot of work in his house, because he wants to leave it as beautiful as possible for his family. And as long as he can still arrange things for his farewell, he will do so.
That’s why he and his family are spending a day in Noordwijk to wrap his coffin there. Jeffrey designed the top and his children can decorate the side. It is a special coffin and that is something that suits him completely. “I want to be buried next to my grandfather and I always had the idea of doing something different,” he explains. “A coffin with a big middle finger on it. It may be crazy to say, but I think it’s really cool.”
When Tim asks him if it’s all suddenly not very tangible, he initially responds negatively. “No, I am not working on that moment yet. I am working on the new football season that is about to start and I am still on holiday for a while and then I will go back to work.” When Tim asks him to what extent son Max understands everything, Jeffrey has to admit that he is ‘too aware of reality’. “Max is having a hard time with everything. He has an angry temper, it’s just very difficult.”
Jeffrey and his wife have therefore hired a grief therapist to support them in this. “If someone can tell me that everything will go well soon, then that’s good for me too,” Jeffrey explains. He indicates that he is not worried about himself and has accepted his fate, but that he is very concerned about his children. This is the moment when it becomes too much for him. “You just don’t wish any child to experience this.”
Over my dead body can be seen every Tuesday from 9:30 PM on BNNVARA on NPO1.
