In Van Hilligaertstraat, a man was picked up this morning by a peg from a garbage truck when he was sleeping on the street there. According to a local police officer, the man was lying between two stacked mattresses, so that employees of the clearance service did not see him.
According to the police, the man ‘let himself be heard’ when he was picked up by the peg, after which he was put back on the ground. A community police officer who was on the scene says that the man ‘came away with a fright.’
The man was conscious when he was found by the police. It is believed he was not injured, but was taken to hospital for a check-up.
A spokesperson emphasizes that the police consider the incident an industrial accident and were only on site to provide first aid.
