MAN: Munich will be the lead plant for e-mobility

The truck manufacturer MAN wants to expand the Munich location into a lead plant for electromobility and thus secure the future of the plant in the long term. “We will invest a three-digit million amount in Munich for the conversion and the planned ramp-up of the production of e-trucks by around the middle of the decade,” said the new company boss Alexander Vlaskamp of the “Munich Merkur tz media group” (Thursday edition).

The research and development department at the main plant in Munich will also focus more on the topic of autonomous driving, said Vlaskamp. The first test drives on the roads of the Free State should therefore begin in the first half of the year. However, a test driver will always be on board and can take over the wheel at any time.

“Munich remains headquarters”

At the same time, Vlaskamp countered speculation that the Munich site could become less important in the long term given the ongoing restructuring program and the partial relocation of production from Munich to the Polish MAN plant in Kraków. “Munich will continue to be our headquarters,” assured the new MAN boss. According to him, the workforce of 7,500 employees in Munich agreed with the employees will remain. (dpa/swi)
