Man missing after downhill along Odnesvegen in Gjøvik – NRK Innlandet – Local news, TV and radio

Police do not know what happened to the missing 39-year-old. A large search operation is now underway in the hope of finding him.

Police say they want tips from the public and have come out with a description of the man.

Drove off the road

The man was involved in an accident along Odnesvegen between Hunndalen and Bybrua in Gjøvik on Sunday night.

The car drove off the road and witnesses are said to have seen a man leave the place. It was just before 22.00.

– We did not get in touch with the person then. It was believed that he had left the place. There was no reason to believe that he was particularly injured, says Løvseth.

After that, there is no trace of the man. Monday night he was reported missing.

– We have been looking for him tonight, but there are difficult conditions. There is a lot of snow in the area, says Løvseth.

The police have few clues to follow. The man’s mobile was left at home.

The man is 1.80 tall, has a black beard and wore yellowish training clothes the last time he was seen.

The missing possibly went in the direction of Bybrua.

Looking forward to Tuesday

Police patrols with dogs, volunteer search crews and helicopters are used in the search in the hope of finding the man.

The Red Cross has had 17 people with it to search, and Norwegian People’s Aid has had 14 people with it. They started at 11.40 pm on Monday, and had a break last night from four o’clock to around eight o’clock on Tuesday.

– There is currently a replacement of crew to start the search further throughout the day, says district council leader Anita Helén Abelstad in Oppland Red Cross auxiliary cross after 08.00 on Tuesday.

– They have covered a good deal, but it is difficult to move there, at least on foot, so they have to use ATVs and scooters, she says.

She says it was good weather conditions, but that the challenge is the snow.

– We have good people who are out looking, but it is clear that it is challenging when you have problems moving on foot, says Abelstad.
