A 59-year-old man was arrested on Saturday evening after he injured another man with an ax in Susteren, Limburg. The violent incident took place at a cafe in that town, police confirm after reporting from The Limburger.

The incident happened around 9 p.m. on Market Street. Police responded to a report of a fight. “When we got there, someone was there with a small axe. He was arrested,” said a police spokesman.

The 55-year-old victim was taken to hospital with unknown injuries. According to the police spokesperson, he was approachable at the time.

According to The Limburger The reason for the incident was a nine-year-old boy who was ringing a bell in the street. A resident would not have been pleased and would have chased the boy with an axe. A visitor to the diner wanted to stop the man and was then attacked, the newspaper writes.

Police cannot confirm the cause of the incident. “That’s the first thing that was said there, but we first have to find out exactly what happened. For example by looking at camera images.”
