According to what the Sûreté du Québec reports, the police were called to go to a business on Sullivan Road to arrest the individual from Val-d’Or, suspected of having stolen an inflatable spa a few days earlier in the establishment.
Sûreté du Québec spokeswoman Nancy Fournier said the suspect resisted arrest.
« Upon arriving at the scene, a patrol officer caught the suspect committing another spa robbery. The man was immediately arrested, but resisted. The officer was assaulted by the suspect and an employee assisting the officer was also injured. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured. »
The suspect remains detained for the moment and must appear this Thursday at the Val-d’Or courthouse.
He could face charges of theft, assault causing bodily harm, assault on a peace officer, obstruction of police work, breach of probation and wearing a disguise in a criminal purpose.
