It’s easy to overlook the ‘pull’ or ‘missio’ signs posted on various doors.

A man in his 50s who was put on trial for killing a person standing outside after pushing a door that said to pull was found guilty in the second trial.

Reporter Song Jae-won reports.

There are signs posted on the doors of buildings and stores telling you to pull or push.

However, there are many times when it is not observed well in daily life.

“If you’re in a hurry, you don’t just look at it and follow it right away.”

“It’s much easier to push than to just naturally pull, so I end up pushing a lot.”

In fact, someone was taken to court and found guilty for pushing a door that was supposed to be pulled.

In 2020, in Asan, South Chungcheong Province, a man in his 50s pushed open the door of a building, causing a woman in her 70s who was standing outside to fall and die.

The prosecution applied for ‘negligent homicide’ and sent it to trial, but the first trial declared him not guilty.

It is impossible to predict that a victim will die from the shock of an accident.

Then, the prosecution, which went to the appeal trial, added the charge of ‘negligent homicide.’

The second trial court also found him not guilty of ‘manslaughter’, but found him guilty, saying he was at fault for causing injury.

The guilt of causing the deceased woman to suffer injuries such as cerebral hemorrhage is not light.

“If there are general rules that must be followed to prevent safety accidents, even if it is a minor sign, if a violation of those guidelines causes harm or injury to another person, this can also be subject to criminal punishment.”

However, some point out that the safety of the entrance door itself needs to be strengthened.

“The door must be set so that it will pull when pulled, but I think it would be a bit unreasonable to be found guilty of pushing when that part is not in place.”

A man who was sentenced to a fine of 1 million won and one year of probation appealed against the appellate court’s decision.
