A man in his 20s was caught by the police for stealing jewelry while posing as a mannequin at a shopping mall in Poland until closing time.
According to the British daily Guardian on the 19th (local time), Warsaw police announced that they had arrested and detained a man, Mr. A (22), who had recently committed thefts at several shopping malls.
The police said, “Mr. A pretended to be a mannequin in front of a store display case in a shopping mall, holding a bag in one hand,” and added, “Mr. A tried to avoid surveillance cameras in this way.”
It was discovered that Mr. A used this method to wait until closing time and then go to various stores to steal jewelry. He was eventually caught by security guards and handed over to the police.
He is also charged with two other thefts. According to the police, Mr. A ate at a restaurant in another shopping mall, waited until closing time, and then broke into a store and changed into new clothes when the restaurant lights were turned off. Afterwards, he went back to the restaurant with the lights off and finished eating.
Additionally, it was discovered that Mr. A waited for business hours to end at another shopping mall and then stole money and items.
Warsaw prosecutors said that Mr. A is currently in custody and could face up to 10 years in prison if found guilty.
