Man in danger of dying after shooting on café terrace in Schaarbeek

Brussel

A man was seriously injured in a shooting in the Brussels municipality of Schaarbeek on Sunday evening. RTL Info reports this and the news is confirmed by the Brussels North police.

“The Brussels North police were called on Sunday evening around 10:30 PM for a shooting on the terrace of a café in Joseph Brandstraat in Schaarbeek,” said police spokesperson Audrey Dereymaeker. “When emergency services arrived on scene, they found a man injured by gunfire. The victim was in mortal danger.”

“The police have notified the public prosecutor’s office, which met with an investigating judge on the spot,” the police spokesperson added. “The investigation is ongoing and police will have no further comment.”

According to RTL Info, a man wearing a balaclava approached the café and fired four bullets at the victim, two of which hit him in the head.

In recent months, the capital has been shocked by several shootings. These are often said to be part of territorial feuds between drug gangs.
