A man in China viral in a video showing, in which he performs the ceremony for old car hers. The video was posted on social media Weibo and has been viewed by netizens more than 6 million times.
In the video recorded by his wife, the man from Shandong Province named Wong can be seen kneeling in front of a white Chery sedan and bowing three times. The ritual also involved offering paper which he burned in front of the 8 year old car.
According to the video description, the ceremony was part of the man and his family’s farewell ritual for his car as they were about to buy a new one.
Wong’s wife said she bought the car when times were tough. As the first car, the vehicle played an important role in making a living. “Driving us for 8 years is certainly very hard,” said his wife.
The couple even considers the car a member of their family. “We really like it… Thank you, car,” Wang said as quoted by detikINET from SCMP.
The couple’s intention to buy a new vehicle caused a feeling of sadness because they had to part with their old car. “To be honest we didn’t have the heart to let him go,” she said.
He admitted that he took the video for future memories. “So we can look at it again in the future,” he said.
On social media, comments on the video were mostly positive, with one commenter exclaiming “This is so meaningful.”. “The car doesn’t look old, they must have taken good care of it,” wrote another netizen.
“The car has accompanied them everywhere, ensuring their safety. So, it deserves respect,” said another. “I don’t think it’s anything mystical or superstitious but to show gratitude.”
