They were a couple for over four decades. The Unna pensioner also never got into debt. But reaching for the bottle could evidently make him an uncomfortable contemporary. On the evening of September 2nd, he proved this in a drastic way.
He took a knife from the kitchen and held it to her neck
The couple clashed, he took a knife from the kitchen and held it to her neck. He also threatened to kill her and chop off her finger. Fear drove the 63-year-old to file a complaint and to obtain an order to protect her against violence at the district court: her husband was forbidden to threaten her again, to abuse her, to approach her or to ambush her.
He had to leave the apartment in which they still lived together at that time and hand over all the keys. But that didn’t stop him from standing in front of the door three days later and ringing the doorbell. In addition to the threat, there was a violation of the Protection Against Violence Act.
“I just wanted her to be calm.”
“What can I say? We got each other’s heads. I drank a lot. Then it escalated. I just wanted to intimidate her. I just wanted her to be calm. ”He would never do anything to his wife. And certainly not after so many years. He couldn’t actually remember the incident, but he still wanted to admit the whole thing. He behaved no differently when it came to the prohibited attempt to establish contact. “I wanted to apologize,” he revealed miserably and admitted in the next breath, as it were, that he hadn’t read the judicial prohibition very carefully. Only afterwards.
It wasn’t the first such incident
His wife, who at least currently lives separately from him, portrayed her fear very vividly. When he held the knife to her neck, she was afraid and called for help. That was not the first incident of this kind, but before that she had not dared to part with him. This separation is now provisional: “I don’t know if he will change at some point.” She had no interest in punishing her husband. “He’s already punished enough because I’m gone now.”
Judge gives the accused a unique chance
The conciliatory attitude of those affected and the empty criminal record ultimately ensured that the proceedings were discontinued without any conditions. However, the judge advised the Unnaer to think about therapy and warned him not to repeat it. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
