Man has penis amputated after hospital misdiagnoses tumor; understand

A man had his penis amputated after a medical error during surgery. The 60-year-old patient was diagnosed with a tumor and underwent the procedure in November 2018, just over a month after receiving information about the alleged cancer.

According to the Arezzo News website, the case was registered at the San Donato Hospital, in Italy, and ended up in court. The victim’s lawyer reported that the man had to have the operation urgently after a visit to a urologist.

After an analysis of the genital organ, it was found that he had syphilis, an infection that can be treated with medication, ruling out any evidence of a tumor.

The man had to use a catheter for months and can no longer have sexual intercourse, much less urinate standing up. With that, the victim sued the hospital and asked for compensation.

The doctor, who at the time was 30 years old when he performed the procedure, gave his testimony this Thursday (3), in Tuscany.
