A man from Urk has been arrested for threatening mayor Cees van den Bos on social media. The mayor reported this Flevoland broadcaster.
The nature of the threat has not been disclosed. It has been restless in Urk for several weeks. Two officers have also reported it. Young people set fires in the fishing village, commit vandalism and bombard aid workers and officers with heavy fireworks, stones and bottles.
On the night from Saturday to Sunday, Molotov cocktails were also thrown. The mayor felt compelled to issue an emergency order. After a number of charges by the riot police, it became quiet again after midnight.
