NEW YORK – The body of a man shot in the head was found in the back seat of an SUV in Queens after the vehicle’s driver was seen fleeing in a head-on collision, police said.
Officers made the grisly discovery after 6pm, according to police and witnesses. A black Range Rover SUV with a Connecticut license plate was speeding up Parsons Boulevard in Flushing when it crashed into a white pickup truck that had stopped for a traffic light at the Sanford Avenue intersection.
Immediately after hitting the truck, the SUV driver got out and ran, bag in hand, police sources said. The driver of the truck was not seriously injured and remained at the crash site while talking to a witness.
The police arrived shortly after and an officer found a man who had been shot in the head. He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said. The driver of the white van was also taken to a nearby hospital, where he was said to be fine.
The victim was later identified by law enforcement as Myron Dukes, 48. It was not immediately clear where Dukes was killed, if he was in the car or somewhere else.
The rear window of the truck shattered. No arrests have yet been made and the police are looking for the driver.
An investigation is underway.
