The death occurred on Saturday afternoon, during the music festival “A Festival Called Panama”, in the north-east of the Australian island of Tasmania.
To ABC News the police state that the deceased man in his 40s was found on a festival bed by the festival’s personnel.
Attempts at resuscitation were made at the scene – without success.
The incident was announced a short time later by the festival organizer from the stage.
– We don’t know if it was due to drugs, but we want to ensure your safety, so this announcement is made to ask you to refrain from recreational drug use. It’s not safe, said festival manager Tim Carrol.
He referred to the deceased as “very dear to us and the festival”.
The cause of death has not yet been determined, but the police state in one statement that there are no suspicious circumstances.
– We want to express our condolences to the man’s family and friends, the statement says.
