On Friday, the now deceased 47-year-old man was sentenced to 18 years in prison for the murder of 45-year-old Lena Wesström, writes Aftonbladet.

Lena Wesström was reported missing on 15 May 2018. She was found dead four days later, at a fence 160 meters away from her own home in the area Nya Hjärsta in Örebro.

According to Expressen, Wesström’s blood was found on the 47 – year – old’s washing machine, and his DNA was found on her ring and skirt.

Swedish police now report that the convicted man himself has been found dead and that another man has been arrested and suspected of murder.

– It has been demanding for a long time, and this was a kind of final on the whole. It is all shocking, says the father of the killed woman, Lars-Åke Johansson to Aftonbladet.

– There are so many thoughts, I do not quite have them in order.

Convicted 18 minutes before

The 47-year-old who was charged with the murder was first acquitted in the district court in Örebro in May 2020. The court considered that there was insufficient evidence to link the 47-year-old to the murder.

On Friday, he was convicted in the Göta Court of Appeal, which corresponds to the Court of Appeal in Norway.

– He has been found dead. There are circumstances that make it impossible for us to determine whether it was another person who caused it. A man who was at the scene, out in the countryside in Örebro municipality, has been arrested. A homicide investigation has been launched. The man was arrested on the spot, says spokesman for the police in the Bergslagen region, Mats Öhman.

To TV4 Nyheterna, he says that there are signs of violence on the deceased man.

Relatives have been notified of the death. The police were notified of the case at 11.18.

VG first wrote that the man was found dead hours after the verdict, but it turned out to be 18 minutes.

– Not told how bad it was

According to the district court ruling, Lena Wesström received 17 blows to the head with a hard object, but it is not clear what kind of object it was. Her cell phone has not been found either.

Wesström is said to have had a secret relationship with the 47-year-old, according to the verdict. She has previously reported him twice for violence, but the investigation was dropped.

Lena Wesström’s father, Lars-Åke Johansson, says he does not want to comment on the death of the man who has been convicted of the murder of his daughter.

– But that does not make the case any better, he states.

Wesstrøm’s parents have followed both lawsuits and describe it as demanding. They last saw her two days before she disappeared.

– Lena was such an energy bundle, happy and positive. We have noticed that something has been wrong, but she should always find out everything on her own. She did not say how bad it was. The last time we saw her, she looked unusually happy. Because then she started to get loose from this, says Johansson.

Was not imprisoned

The man has not been imprisoned during the negotiations or while awaiting sentencing.

In connection with the verdict being handed down earlier on Friday, it was decided that the man should be imprisoned. When he did not show up, he was wanted, writes SVT.

A press conference was planned in connection with the verdict at 1 pm on Monday, but this was canceled. In an e-mail, the prosecution wrote that an obstacle had arisen.

It was later reported that the man had been found dead.
