A Canadian man is recovering from serious injuries after bravely leaping onto a polar bear to protect his wife from a vicious attack.
The incident occurred early tuesday morning in a residential area of Ontario, Canada. Nishnawbe Aski Police Service officers responded to reports of gunfire and arrived to find a deceased polar bear at the scene.
Prior to the officers’ arrival, police had received reports of a possible bear sighting in the same area. Upon inquiry, officers learned that a husband and wife had ventured out of their home around 5 a.m. to search for their dogs.

A neighbor, hearing the commotion, rushed to the scene armed with a firearm and shot the bear multiple times. The wounded bear retreated into a nearby wooded area where it later died.
The injured husband was transported to a local medical center for treatment and is expected to make a full recovery.
Following the attack, police conducted patrols in the surrounding area to ensure there were no other polar bears posing a threat to residents.
