A 33-year-old Manhattan man faces criminal charges after he jumped into the north pool of the 9/11 Memorial Museum on Monday afternoon.
The New York police responded to the World Trade Center, in lower Manhattan around 1:30 p.m., when a Port Authority agent reported that a man had jumped into one of the two reflective pool staggered in the monument.
The man, who has not been identified, survived the jump despite diving about 45 feet into the pool with 18 inches of water.
A video posted on X (former Twitter) shows the subject lying in the water of the central basin of the pool, looking at the opening of 20 feet deep which is located in the middle.
The Daily Mail points out that the individual was able to access the area during a visit by the relatives of the victims of the attack and that “briefly granted access to the restricted area at the plaza level”.
The man suffered an injury to his left leg, so he was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he was in stable condition, according to authorities.

The two reflecting pools mark the place where the Twin Towers before they were demolished during the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 and now they are a tribute to the people who died that day.
