Man faces charge for assaulting goalkeeper during Tottenham derby

A man was charged on Tuesday with assaulting the Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdaleafter the Premier League match between that club and Tottenham.

The Metropolitan Police accused Joseph Watts35, of assault, reported the British agency Press Association.

Watts must appear before the Highbury Magistrates’ Courtin London, on February 17.

Apparently, the subject launched a kick at the back of Ramsdale, who had just picked up a bottle of water placed behind one of the goals, after Arsenal’s 2-0 win over the Tottenhamin the Premier match played on Sunday.

It was possible to see a spectator jump from the stands and climb on a billboard, from where he launched the kick.

Ramsdale did not appear to be injured. His teammates took him from the area before celebrating in front of the fans of the Arsenal at the other end of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The aggressor will have to answer in court

The English Football Association has categorically condemned what happened.

“This is totally unacceptable conduct,” stressed the governing body of English soccer. “We will work together with the police, the competent authorities and the clubs to ensure that the appropriate measures are taken.”
