A 41-year-old man did everything he could to avoid the police last Thursday morning. So he jumped into the water of the Binnenkant in the center and remained there, despite the cold, for no less than fifteen minutes. Upon arrest, it turned out that he was wanted for criminal offenses in the east of the country.
The police saw a man exhibiting abnormal behavior on Prins Hendrikkade on Thursday morning just before 10 o’clock. When officers speak to the man, he immediately runs off, ignores the officers’ orders and then climbs onto a houseboat located on the Binnenkant. “He jumps into the water with a gliding dive,” the police said.
Several attempts are then made to get the man to the side, but the man continues to resist tirelessly. He ignores the help of a canoe and lifebuoy pushed towards him. In fact, the man even struggles with firefighters who try to get him onto shore with the help of a police boat. There he is treated by ambulance staff with hypothermia.
Illegal acts
Once on the sidelines, it becomes clear why the man went to all that trouble. The systems show that the man is from Kampen and is wanted for criminal offenses in the east of the country. When his temperature returned, he could be handed over to the East Netherlands police.
