Things have continued to be troubled in Belarus since President Aleksander Lukashenko won the contested elections last month. Images appeared on social media on Wednesday of an activist who was being pursued by the security services. The young man barely managed to escape thanks to the quick reflexes of a taxi driver. “This is not a scene from an action movie”, it sounds. “This is an ordinary evening in Minsk.”

The images are said to have been filmed near the Puškinskaja Station in the Belarusian capital. It was confirmed to the BBC that the reporter who shot the footage is doing well, but that he and his colleague “had their faces pressed against the asphalt for a while”. The taxi driver has now received a lot of praise on social media and has become a real hero.
