A story that went viral and made its protagonist a hero and a miracle worker. Definitely a very courageous person who really risked not being able to tell it. Eaten alive by an anaconda, would you believe it? And above all how can he be alive to tell about it?
The story is that of a New York accountant, such Richard Harris. So not quite the canonical Indiana Jones or Crocodile Dundee-style expert on lethal animals. Yet the courage of adventurous cinematographic protagonists was not lacking.

As he himself recounts, the man wanted to make an economic change in his life and perhaps even embark on an unrepeatable adventure: catch an anaconda. A request made from a competition organized by “The New York Zoological Society” and which was giving away for those who succeeded in the enterprise, a good 50,000 dollars. One might say that it does not seem an incredible figure and that it is worth risking one’s life, but Harris must not have thought so.
The accountant therefore decided to join and to do so he documented and observed dozens of documentaries on this fearsome animal species, sure of succeeding in the enterprise. Unfortunately, not everything went according to plan for him.
The Incredible Adventure of Richard Harris
The confrontation between Harris and the anaconda takes place in Amazonia. A place where anacondas are certainly not the only problem and danger to beware of. Richard Harris thought he had calculated everything right, and even rented a boat.
This is to avoid getting wet in watercourses, risking numerous inconveniences. Yet not everything went smoothly. In fact, due to the poor quality of the boat, the man unfortunately injured his finger, recklessly deciding to rinse his hand in the river. Not thinking this way to attract some ferocious piranhas.
In a quick sequence of events Harris was attacked by fish that even detached his thumb, causing him to fall off the boat and risk drowning. As he says, he managed to reach the shore, but ending up straight into his hands, or rather into the jaws of the terrible anaconda that he was trying to capture.

In fact, it was on a branch above him and very fast and lethal it swallowed the man whole in one gulp. Harris, however, had read during his studies that perhaps by pretending to be dead and motionless he could have freed himself from the inside of the anaconda, injuring it in some way. Nothing more false, because the moment he swallows the prey, the anaconda obviously tries to digest itcontracting the stomach and therefore crushing whatever it ate.
Not to mention that by his own admission, the man found himself without tools suitable for defending himself. Knocked out and resigned to certain death, our accountant, however, later woke up in the grass, alive. Incredibly reporting only burns, probably caused by the gastric juices of the anaconda that was digesting it.
A miracle? Apparently a providential intervention. While examining the site of the awakening, Harris says he noticed the footprints of a wild animal, perhaps a leopard. The most probable hypothesis is that the anaconda was attacked by an animal and to escape quickly, it spat out the prey it had just swallowed.
Incredible right? A story with a happy ending, fortunately, even if Harris later discovered that the competition for which she was risking her life had actually expired. He certainly won’t try to retry it in a new edition.
