Man drives digger into police car, officer fires warning shot

“I was just standing with my car at the riding school in Tilburg, when a man came walking up and shouted: ‘Open, open!'” Stuerlings says. “I locked my car. That man grabbed a milk can and threw it right through the window behind me.”

Then the suspect, who according to Stuerlings gave the impression of ‘confused or addicted’, threw another bench against the car. “My car is completely damaged.”

The suspect then went to the farm next to the riding school. The farmer’s mother saw him walking and alerted the police. When it arrived, the man jumped on the backhoe and drove into the police car. It was badly damaged. Police said on Twitter that the officers were not injured.

Electric shock weapon and pepper spray

The suspect was arrested with the help of an electric shock weapon. According to another eyewitness who arrived quickly on the scene, the police also used pepper spray in the arrest. “The cause is under investigation,” the police said.

Stuerlings is quite shocked. “My Sunday has been ruined, I’ve been recovering from the shock for a while. It was terrifying. Fortunately I was not physically injured.”
