Man drives an excavator into police officers in Tilburg, shots fired

An armed man ran into some police officers with an excavator on Sunday morning in Tilburg. That happened just after nine o’clock at a riding school on the Broekstraat in the Moerenburg countryside of Tilburg. The police then fired several warning shots.

The 40-year-old man from Oostrum, Limburg, first destroyed a car at the riding school, while someone was still in it. The Limburger threw a milk can through the rear window, among other things. The victim in the car did not know the man.

Then the man walked to the farm next to the equestrian center, where the shovel was parked.

The owner is said to have tried to stop him, but the man managed to start the excavator and drove back to the stables.

Knife in hand
The alerted officers yelled for him to get out. They saw at that moment that he was holding a knife in his hand. Police used pepper spray, but it turned out to be ineffective.

When the man drove the excavator into the police car, warning shots were fired. The man was then tasered and arrested. He was taken to the police station.

No one was injured, but the police car was badly damaged.
