A melee reportedly took place inside the shop at the junction of Altrincham Road and Southmoor Road at around 9.30am on Tuesday morning.

It is said that they were two men who knew each other.

A woman who left the shop at the time of the incident told a passerby she saw a man “shed blood”.

One man said he saw two people being “taken away” afterwards.

One man was taken to hospital from the scene, while another was arrested.

In an update released this morning, police confirmed that a weapon was used in the incident.

They said the victim suffered two stab wounds that were not life-threatening or life-altering.

He was treated in hospital and released shortly thereafter. The man who had been arrested at the time was later released on police bail.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.

After the incident, officers sealed off the store entrance and part of the parking lot.

Specialist crime scene forensic investigation teams and detectives could be seen carrying out investigations both inside the store and around the entrance.

Officers could later be seen patrolling the bushes on the grassy perimeter of the parking lot.

The shop was closed during the investigation.

It reopened around 2.30pm.

A Lidl spokesman said: “We can confirm that our Baguley store on Timpson Road was temporarily closed on Tuesday, but re-opened at 2.30pm the same day.

“As this is a police matter, we are unable to provide any further information at this time.”
