The public prosecutor’s office has challenged the verdict handed down on Saturday against three women in the case of the murder of Sliman Amara, who was killed and dismembered near Rouen in 2018, Rouen public prosecutor Frédéric Teillet announced on Tuesday. .

Céline Vasselin, a 35-year-old beautician, and Jessica Adam, 39, a client turned “girlfriend”, were tried last week by the Seine-Maritime assize court for drugging, killing with a knife and then hacking into pieces the victim, with whom Céline Vasselin had had a child three years earlier.

They were respectively sentenced to 22 years and 17 years of criminal imprisonment, significantly lower sentences than the requisitioned 30 years and 25 years of imprisonment.

A third woman, tried for not having prevented the crime, was acquitted. The Advocate General had asked her for 5 years’ imprisonment, 4 of which were suspended.

On the civil side, the lawyer of the victim’s sister, Me Frank Berton, said he was “very surprised by the number of sentences and the clemency of the Rouen assize court”.

The defense lawyers said they were satisfied with the verdict, considered “adapted” and taking into account the psychological violence suffered by Mrs. Vasselin. During the trial, she alleged that her partner was inflicting physical and psychological abuse on her to explain her decision to kill him.

“I do not deny Mrs. Vasselin’s difficulties in her life as a couple with Sliman Amara, but these keys to understanding will never justify an assassination,” retorted the general counsel Olga Martin-Belliard in her accusation.

As for Mrs. Adam, “I think it was the armed wing that Mrs. Vasselin was looking for, a conscious and voluntary armed wing”, the magistrate had chastised.

On November 4, 2018, the river brigade discovered a dismembered body rolled up in a tarpaulin, in the Seine, just upstream from Rouen, then with a human hand and a calf in the following days in other communes. The body was eventually identified using DNA.

Arrested a few days later, the companion and friend had quickly confessed: toast with anxiolytics at dinner on November 3, stabbings then dismemberment with equipment purchased the previous weeks and dispersion in different points the following day.
