On Thursday night a fire broke out in an apartment in an apartment building Marktheidenfeld in the Main-Spessart district erupted. A 64 year old died here. More people were injured. The Kripo Wrzburg determined the cause of the fire.
At around 02:45 a.m., the fire brigade, police and ambulance service were called to an apartment fire in Obertorstrasse. Most of the residents of the apartment building had already gone outside by the time the rescue workers arrived. Heavy smoke came from the building. The fire brigade quickly got the fire under control in an apartment on the second floor and was able to extinguish the flames before it spread to other apartments.

Firefighters discovered a 64-year-old lifeless in his upper floor apartment and handed him over to the ambulance service. The man died despite resuscitation measures carried out by the ambulance service and an emergency doctor on site. Other residents also had to be treated by the emergency services with minor to sometimes severe injuries and some had to be taken to hospitals. In addition to the crisis intervention team, members of the support group of the Lower Franconia police station take care of those affected.
The criminal police took over the investigation into the cause of the fire that night. According to initial findings, the fire broke out in the 64-year-old’s kitchen. Fire investigators from the Kripo continue the investigation during the day. The amount of property damage is also still the subject of ongoing investigations.
