An American man paid his life for helping a family of ducks that were facing danger and trying to cross the street in an American city, as the man’s help for this group of birds ended in a tragedy that ended with his death.
According to the details published by the British newspaper “Metro”, and viewed by “Al Arabiya Net”, the man jumped out of his private car after discovering that the mother duck and her young were struggling to make their way through traffic at a busy intersection in California, USA.
The other road users had come to a complete stop and watched as he heroically led them to safety, so that many applauded after he did so, but the tragedy occurred after a few seconds, as he was hit by a car and died at the scene, while his children were sitting in his car helplessly in the waiting for his return.
Police said the 17-year-old driver who ran over the father was arrested immediately and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation into the accident.
A local California news channel described the incident as “the last act of kindness,” and reporter Michele Pandor said: “The place has gone from a scene of pure joy and happiness to the worst outcome imaginable.”
I came out of nowhere
Speaking to the channel, with the permission of his mother, the child, William Wimsat, who witnessed what happened, explained that “no one moved through the intersection and the drivers were waiting even though the lights were green.” “He got out of the car and he was yelling at the ducks and everyone was clapping because he was really nice,” he said.
He continued, “He helped them up the sidewalk because all the ducklings were having problems and then he walked in front of our car, and then the car hit him … It seemed to come out of nowhere.”
“I didn’t actually see the car hit him,” William said. “All I remember is the sound and then flying through the intersection. His shoes and one of his socks were right in front of our car.”
Pictures taken by William show the man, who was wearing glasses, a T-shirt, black shorts and sneakers, driving ducks across the road.
Little William says he wants people to remember the good man who saved the ducks before he died.
A monument is erected to honor him
“He was the only person who got out of the car and tried to help them and was probably the nicest person in the whole area,” he added.
A small memorial with flowers and rubber ducks was erected at the site in honor of the man’s memory.
“We have to honor him because he was really sweet and then something horrible happened to him. He was an amazing person,” said Judd, a 12-year-old who also witnessed the tragedy.
The Rocklin Police Department confirmed that it is investigating a car crash that killed a man at approximately 8:15 p.m. local time on May 18 after he stopped his car at an intersection. A spokesperson said: “The man was reportedly trying to help some ducklings who were at the intersection, and while the man was at the intersection, the teenage driver was heading east on Stanford Ranch. This young driver hit the man who was in the road.”
The police indicated that the driver remained at the scene of the collision, and the ambulance arrived immediately, but the man died at the scene.
