Man dies after being struck by lightning on Yangyang Seorak Beach in Gangwon-do

Yesterday (10th) afternoon, a man in his 30s died after being struck by lightning on the beach in Yangyang-gun, Gangwon-do.

According to the police, a 36-year-old surnamed Jo, who was struck by lightning at Seorak Beach in Jeonjin-ri, Ganghyeon-myeon, Yangyang-gun yesterday at around 5:33 pm, died at around 4:15 am today (11th).

After being transported to the hospital in a state of cardiac arrest, Cho’s breathing and pulse returned in about 10 minutes, but it was investigated that he died while receiving treatment without consciousness.

Five people, including 43-year-old Noh, who were involved in the accident, were confirmed to have no life-threatening injuries.

The remaining four patients were reported to have had symptoms such as chest pain and lower extremity paresthesia.

The fire department said, “We went to the scene after receiving a report that ‘a beach was struck by lightning and several people fell'” and “rescued people who were struck by lightning and swept away by the water.”

The police said, “Five of the injured, including the seriously injured, were sitting on the beach after surfing, and one person in his 20s with minor injuries was identified as having an accident while carrying an umbrella.”

The police are analyzing the surrounding CCTV to ascertain the situation at the time of the accident and investigating the exact circumstances against witnesses.
