Man dies after being pushed onto subway tracks in New York

A man pushed another man on the subway, fell on the tracks and died after hitting his head in New York.

The 34-year-old victim and the suspect began an argument on a southbound train and continued their feud when they disembarked at the W. 96th St. and Broadway stop.

When the fight got heated, Andre Boyce, 28, threw the other man onto the tracks of the No. 1 train, police said. The victim hit her head when she fell, the New York Daily News reported.

Police officers witnessed the incident and immediately seized Boyce. Medics took the victim to the Hospital Mount Sinai Morningsidebut they couldn’t save him. The identity of the victim has not been released.

With criminal history

Charges were pending against Boyce, who has a history of mental health problems, the sources said. Boyce was released from prison in March of last year after serving nearly seven years in the Sing Sing Correctional Facility for attempted robbery, state Department of Corrections records show. He was under subsequent supervision, according to DOC records.

He was also locked up in 2012 for another attempted robbery for a year before being released on probation, records show, The New York Post reported.

Joe Correaa 30-year-old doorman who lives in Astoria, declared: “It’s New York (…) You have to keep your eyes open.”

Plan against mental health problem

The Governor of New York, Kathy Hochulannounced on January 10 a billion-dollar plan to address the mental health crisis in the state, with more psychiatric infrastructure at hospitals and public accommodations for people in treatment and recovery.
