A motorist died on Saturday morning after a serious accident on the Ontsluitingsweg in Westerlee. The driver sat alone in the car and bumped into a tree.

The fire department cut the car open to free the victim. A trauma helicopter had also landed to provide assistance, but that was to no avail. The man died on the spot.
The police are investigating how the accident could have happened. The road is closed to traffic.
