Man died in traffic jam in Lærdalstunnelen – NRK Vestland

The accident is said to have occurred 9.5 kilometers from the Lærdal side of the tunnel.

There was only one person in the car, and the naudetatane are in town. The cause of the accident is unknown.

– The police have now finished the crime scene investigation in the city. The case will be investigated by the Sogn police station district, says operations leader, Stein Rune Øyjordsbakken Halleraker, in the police in a press release.

He further says that the deceased is a man in his 70s from Sogn. The relatives have been notified.

The tunnel reopened

The tunnel was closed, but was reopened at 23.40 on Tuesday night, the police say.

There were long queues on both sides of the tunnel in the time after the accident.

Motorist Jan Christian Jerving is one of those who stood in line on the Lærdal side of the tunnel. He could report that cars in the queue began to turn around to drive back before the conductors were in place.

Vegtrafikksentralen recommends a detour via county road 50 Aurland – Hol, national road 7 Hardangervidda, and national road 13 Vikafjellet. Extra ferries have also been set up via Vangsnes, Hella and Dragsvik.
