Hallingdølen first had the death confirmed by the police task force leader on the spot. The motorcycle the man was riding was found 900 meters away from the accident site on national road 7.
The emergency services were notified of the accident at 19.46 on Saturday night.
The situation appeared unclear for a long time, and the Southeast Police District signed Twitter that search crews were called in to find out if more people were involved. The background should be ambiguity as to whether there was a passenger on the bike.
Relatives of the deceased man have been notified, and the search for other people has ended.
Highway 7 is closed in both directions and there is a detour via highway 52 Hemsedalsfjellet. Heavier vehicles must drive E16 Lærdal or county road 50 Hol-Aurland.
Long queues have formed on the spot. The accident analysis group (UAG) from the Norwegian Public Roads Administration and the police forensic technicians will investigate the accident site on Sunday night.
