A man in his 50s lost his life after falling several meters in a skiing accident at Hemsedal ski center on Saturday.
The man must have fallen several meters and hit trees in the fall, according to the police.
– Here the accident was probably so brutal that there was no saving life, says operations manager Tommy Eriksen to VG.
– What the patrol has been told by witnesses is that he probably lost his skis in the fall and therefore had nothing to brake with.
It was the local paper Hallingdølen who first reported the matter.
The police received a report about the accident at 12.51 on Saturday. Life-saving first aid was attempted, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene by air ambulance personnel.
The accident happened at Hemsedal ski centre. The man’s relatives have been notified.
– This is a very tragic accident, there is no way around it, says operations manager Eriksen.
– It is terribly tragic.
