The man vigorously resisted the officers, the police report, after which officers “were forced to use pepper spray and the electroshock weapon”. The man then became unconscious. Officers tried to resuscitate him, but the man died at the scene.

It is not known why the officers and emergency personnel visited the man. Police are unable to say anything further about the cause of the incident.

The police have had electroshock weapons at their disposal since the beginning of this year. This taser is intended for situations where a baton or pepper spray is ineffective, but where officers also do not want to draw their weapon.
Agents were given the extra weapon after a test phase in which someone was tasered about 300 times during an arrest. Police said it never resulted in significant injuries.
