A 56-year-old man has died in a fire on a pleasure yacht in Koog aan de Zaan. The victim was seriously injured and taken to a hospital where he died, the Zaanstreek-Waterland Safety Region reported.
The fire on the ship broke out around 8:30 p.m. One or more leaking gas cylinders were probably the cause. The yacht was moored at the Coenbrug in the North Holland town. The fire was quickly extinguished, a spokesman for the security region said.
It is not yet clear what the man on the boat was doing. Police have launched an investigation and are looking for possible witnesses.
