A verbal dispute on the subway turned violent Tuesday morning, leaving a man hospitalized with stab wounds to his neck.
The attack on a Line 4 train occurred shortly after 6:00 am in the vicinity of Broadway and Wall Street. Authorities confirmed that there was a verbal dispute between two men, and one, in his 40s, was slashed across the neck with a box cutter.
The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital but is expected to survive his injuries. The suspect was described as a man in his 30s wearing a blue balaclava and an orange sweatshirt.
The attack is the latest of several that have occurred on the subway system. Major crimes in transit are up 70% this year compared to the same period in 2021.
That said, the numbers have improved slightly since the mayor and governor launched a Metro Safety Plan in mid-February. According to New York City Police data, there were an average of 6.6 serious crimes in the transit system per day in February; which fell to 5.7 per day in March.
This is a developing story.
