(ANSA) – ROME, JULY 30 – He cut off a dog’s head with a knife and then attacked the police officers who intervened. It happened yesterday in via Bottidda, in the Rocca Cencia area, on the outskirts of Rome. A neighbor who saw the man cut the dog’s throat with the knife raised the alarm. When the patrol officers and the Casilino District arrived, he first threw the dog’s carcass at them, then tried to hit them with kicks and punches, and finally tore down the front door and threw it at them. The man, a 40-year-old citizen of Gambia, was stopped with a taser and arrested. Patrizia Prestipino, Rome’s animal welfare and protection guarantor, as she has done in other episodes, is asking the mayor “to constitute the Municipality as a civil party in the trial that will be held against the man who committed such a horrible act, a 40-year-old who has already been identified and arrested”. “After the kitten Caracas tied to the train tracks and left to die after being hit, the kittens pierced by arrows in Fonte Nuova, the dog Giorgio stabbed and thrown into a ditch in Ponte Galeria – he adds – once again violence is unleashed against sentient and defenseless beings, such as animals, proving a cruelty and cowardice that leaves us shocked”.
