Man City’s goal was considered controversial, Guardiola: Bernardo does not bother the goalkeeper

Pep Guardiola feel the winning goal City of Manchester no discussion required. He was surprised by the initial decision which deemed the goal invalid.

The line judge himself raised the flag for offside because he thought Silva was affecting the flow of play through the goal. The referee then changed the decision after reviewing the VAR screen.

In its statement, the Premier League explained that the referee decided to award the goal because Berardo was deemed not to have disturbed Jose Sa enough. In this case it was considered that he did not close his eyes and did not affect the goalkeeper.

Replays showed that Bernardo Silva was indeed moving away from the goalkeeper and was in a low position when Stones’ header came in. Even though he was at the corner from the start, he was connected to the goalkeeper.

“Of course I didn’t understand at first. The linesman, I don’t know why he raised the flag. But Bernardo didn’t interfere with the goalkeeper’s position,” Pep Guardiola told BBC.

“It will be difficult to accept at first. Today in today’s football, they ‘choke’ the goalkeeper. In that moment it happened, Sa had a perfect vision.”
