Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
A total of two unique records created after Manchester City ensure the title FA Cup 2022/2023 on Saturday (3/6).
Wembley Stadium, London, witnessed the greatness of Man City when they beat their city rivals Manchester United 2-1 in the FA Cup final this season.
The two winning goals for The Citizens were scored by the captain, Ilkay Gundogan. Meanwhile, MU’s only goal was created thanks to Bruno Fernandes’ penalty.
Opta noted that there were two unique records that occurred in the 2022/2023 FA Cup final. The record was recorded by Ilkay Gundogan and Bruno Fernandes.
First, Gundogan managed to carve his name in history as the player who scored the fastest goal in the FA Cup final. The reason is that the player from Germany managed to score a goal when the match was not even a minute long, only lasted 12 seconds to be precise.
The goal started from a long pass to the front line which Kevin De Bruyne tried to master in front of the penalty box. The wild ball then rolled towards Gundogan who was greeted with a volley.
Gundogan’s hard shot aimed at the right corner of Man Utd’s goal was unable to reach David de Gea. Man City also won quickly 1-0 at the start of the match.
This goal made Gundogan pass the record for the fastest goal in an FA Cup final which had previously been held by Louis Saha since 2009. At that time Saha managed to score a goal after 25 seconds of play.
The second unique record created in this match was when Bruno Fernandes scored a goal in the 33rd minute. The goal was created through the execution of a classy penalty from the captain.
Interestingly, for the first time in the history of the FA Cup final two team captains have scored goals. It so happened that Fernandes and Gundogan were each given the responsibility of being team captains at the top of the party.
