Wayne Rooney candidate Manchester City in the semifinals of the Champions League. The former Manchester United striker believes City can tear things apart Real Madrid.
City will challenge defending champions Madrid in the semifinals Liga Champions. From Madrid vs City in the first leg will be held at the Santiago Bernabeu, Wednesday (10/5).
City head into this match unbeaten in their last 20 matches. In that run, Pep Guardiola’s troops recorded 17 wins and three draws.
Erling Haaland also keep showing sharpness. The Norwegian striker has scored 51 goals for City in all competitions this season.
“Manchester City will not only beat Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-finals, it will destroy them,” Rooney wrote in his column in The Times.
“Of course I could be wrong, but I think this is on a different level. You can never write off a team as experienced and full of history as Real Madrid, but I wouldn’t favor them. I think this is City’s year.”
Rooney believes City can end their wait for the Champions League title this season. Previously, their best achievement was finishing runners-up in 2020/2021.
“From the start of the season I felt this would be the season Pep Guardiola finally conquers Europe with City and the football his team has been playing in recent months and the way they got to the top at the right time says it all,” he said.
